Our Philosophy

Our five guiding principles that transform our Cottage from a childcare centre to a home-away-from-home.

At The Cottage Ashmore we aim to provide the highest level of care and education for each child in a warm, nurturing and safe environment.

We do this by:

  • creating a sense of belonging which comes from our caring supportive educators,
  • providing a unique boutique sized centre to ensure a close-knit community, and
  • embedding an inclusive curriculum and learning process based on the interests of the children and their families.

We offer a warm and welcoming environment which is inclusive and supportive to each child’s individual needs.  In doing so, we have created a strong connection between families, educators and children which allows for growth, respect, and contributes to building a strong sense of identity.

We as educators focus on building secure attachments with every child, by using effective routines to help make predicted transitions run smoothly, developing a sense of belonging and ensuring we effectively communicate and connect with each child and family.

Our educational play-based programs assist our children to build and develop at their own individual rate, whilst having a balance of structure to help with school readiness.

Play is an enormous part of being, belonging and becoming.  It allows for expression of personality and uniqueness, enhances curiosity and creativity, assists in developing relationships and new concepts and stimulates a sense of wellbeing.  The Early Years Learning Framework 2009 provides the curriculum to support this by embedding the following five principles:

Secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships

Partnerships

High expectations and equity

Respect for diversity

Ongoing learning and reflective practice

We are open-minded, professional, and we support, respect and advocate for the families within our centre and the wider community regardless of cultural background, socioeconomic status, abilities, race or religion.  Our families and their families are welcome at our centre at all times. We encourage community involvement in our curriculum, by allowing children access to a wide variety of education and learning based support.  This includes cultural dance, sustainability and gardening, and physical education.

We strive to provide a safe, nurturing and hygienic environment for each individual child. A healthy, nutritional menu catering for individual needs, including dietary and cultural requirements is provided. Each child’s individual sleep, rest and relaxation requirements are catered for at all times.

We teach the Queensland Government Kindergarten Approved Program within our Preschool Room to ensure each child receives a quality, inclusive early childhood education.

Our service proudly values inclusion and we support any additional needs by providing top quality care to each and every child.

We care for your children

as if they were our own.

We know that leaving your child in someone else’s care is a big decision. It’s a responsibility we take seriously every second of the day.
